Milton Keynes Christmas Day Party

for the Elderly

On Christmas Day for the last 30 years, we have shown our appreciation for the senior citizens in the Milton Keynes area.  On this special day, we try to ease the pain of loneliness that many experience at this time of year.

For many Elderly, they are alone since their families are no longer in the community or their spouses have passed away.

Volunteers and donators give our senior guests a gift they will cherish by giving them a Christmas Day with others in a friendly and festive environment!

The day starts at about 9.30 when volunteer drivers collect the guests and bring them to the venue.  The guests are met by more volunteers, who look after them all day till they depart about 4pm.  We cater for about 120 elderly guests which would otherwise be spending Christmas day on their own.

The activities for our guests include:

  • Sing-alongs
  • Entertainment
  • Luncheon prepared fresh by our wonderful chef
  • Tea, coffee, biscuits and a little alcohol to bring in the Christmas cheer
  • The all important visit from Father Christmas who comes and gives each guest a present
  •  Listen to the Queen’s speech

Volunteers are important.  We usually have about 80 volunteers.  They spend all or part of the day with at the event.  For more information check out the tab “Volunteers’ Roles”.

MKCDPE relies solely on donations from individuals and businesses in the area. The event has been managed for over 20 years by Ruth Seabrook and other members of the committee.  Each year we literally go - hat in hand - requesting both donations and volunteers to keep the event available for our Elderly Guests.

Without donations, Christmas Day would be just another day

for 120 of our elderly neighbours.

Thank you to:   AveHre, Fyna Vehicles of Northampton, Kall Kwik Northampton, Kath Douglas, Marshalls, Mell Garner, MK Community Transport, Santander and many others.

History of MKCDPE

In 1979, the Mayor held a Christmas Party at Wilton Hall for 25 elderly guests.

As the event grew, the venue moved to Argos Head Office on Avebury Boulevard in 1993 as the Milton Keynes Party for the Elderly.

In 2006 an opportunity arose for a new venue at the Santander Building in Shenley Wood. The move allowed easier access to the facilities for our guests.

Thank you to Santander for assisting in bringing the spirit of Christmas to over 120 elderly guests for the last 5 years.

Thank you to MKFM and BBC County 3 who gave our group airtime.
